Job description: A distinguished food manufacturing company based in Johannesburg is seeking the expertise of a skilled and experienced Production Manager to join their team. Production Manager will be responsible for the operation of the plant in terms of production, quality, cost, delivery, technical, safety and human resources, and organize and oversee the manufacturing of goods and will be ultimately responsible for the smooth running of all production lines and the quality of output according to production plan and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will own the entire production process and will strategize with other internal teams to ensure operational excellence and report to the Factory Manager.

The Successful Incumbent Should Meet the Following Responsibilities, Requirements and Skills
• Proven experience as Production Manager.
• Strong leadership, organizational and managerial skills and deep knowledge of production management, planning and control, communication skills.
• Conduct and lead regular team meetings, team management and teamwork supervision, mentoring and motivating skills that could allow working well with others during conversations, projects, meetings and other collaborations.
• Skills to have: Sound judgement, analytical thinking, planning and organizing, good verbal communication, organized and meticulous, pro-active, quality-oriented, professional, assertive and responsible, willing to learn, integrate into and motivate the corporate culture, and living by the corporate values.
• Results driven and structured, ensuring the best quality of product is produced according to set standards.
• Knowledge of performance evaluation and budgeting concepts and ensuring optimal performance and ensuring that deadlines are met timeously and ensuring the efficient use of resources, and experience in reporting on key production metrics, and managing contracts, leave and pay of employees.
• Manage all aspects of the production through working with Production Supervisor for delivering, ensure all orders are produced in full and production lines performing at the required efficiency rates and targets, and strive to continually improve and to reduce costs.
• Liaise with technical and maintenance departments to ensure optimal performance of the production function and to maintain equipment.
• Manage employee conduct according to the company’s Code of Behaviour and take appropriate action where deviations occur and maintain all relevant company policy requirements, and conduct KPIs across shifts.
• Keep and maintain documentation with accurate traceability throughout the production process.
• Comply with the necessary Occupational Health and Safety requirements, ensure compliance to all food safety regulations, allergen control, housekeeping and pest control, and participate in personal hygiene checks, and compliance with organizational food safety management system requirements.
• Proficient in MS Office.
Other responsibilities
• Manage day-to-day activities, analyse statistics and prepare reports, report on targets during daily meetings and provide explanations for deviations.
• Manage and support new product development initiatives and objectives and assist with new product costings models.
• Analyse budgets and continuously control production costs and identify/rectify waste measures.
• Liaise with other teams in logistics, warehousing, stocking of raw materials used in production, human resources and accounting.
• Create and implement organisational/production changes on an operative level as defined by the company management.
• Derive new strategies for improvement if necessary.
Qualifications
• BSc/BA Degree in Production/Operations Management or Industrial Engineering or Business Administration or Mechanical Engineering or another relevant field is preferred.
• 4+ years of production experience
